IPN/VIF Number Application

What is an IPN?

An Identified Person Number (IPN) is issued by the Companies Registration Office (CRO) following successful completion of the VIF identity process. Eligible directors and beneficial owners without a PPSN can use it for relevant CRO/RBO filings. It is not an alternative number for everyone: Irish citizens resident in the State, including part-time residents, must obtain a PPSN under the CRO's guidance.

Who Needs an IPN?

• Eligible non-resident directors without a PPSN or an existing usable IPN
• Eligible beneficial owners without a PPSN for relevant RBO filings
• Applicants whose existing identity records need to be checked before filing

Application Process

The IPN application requires:

• Use the current CRO VIF declaration available through CORE
• Check the applicant's details against any existing identity and company records
• Arrange an eligible witness under the current form's instructions and bring the required identification
• Sign with the witness physically in the same room; online witnessing is not accepted from 30 April 2026
• Submit the completed declaration through the appropriate CORE process

Processing Time

Timing depends on the witness appointment, a satisfactory application and CRO processing. We support the application and notify you when the number is issued; we do not guarantee a fixed CRO completion date.
