An Irish LTD — Private Company Limited by Shares — is the most common business structure in Ireland. It is a separate legal entity from its owners, meaning shareholders' liability is limited to the value of the shares they hold. Introduced in its current form by the Companies Act 2014, the LTD replaced the old "Limited" private company and simplified Irish company law dramatically.
A sole trader is simpler to set up but offers no liability protection — your personal assets are at risk. An LTD gives you limited liability, lower tax on retained profits (12.5% corporation tax vs up to 52% personal income tax), and looks more professional to clients and banks. Irish trading profits are taxed at 12.5% corporation tax — one of the lowest rates in the EU. Passive income (rent, interest) is taxed at 25%. There is also a 25% R&D tax credit, the Knowledge Development Box (6.25% on qualifying IP income), and Start-Up Relief from corporation tax for new companies. Our corporate tax guide explains it in detail.
Our LTD packages start at €240 (Basic) and include all CRO filing fees. The Standard package at €440 adds an IPN and your first annual return.
