Step 1 — Choose the right company structure

Most founders set up a Private Company Limited by Shares (LTD). It's the simplest structure: limited liability, no minimum capital, and only one director required. Other options:

    • DAC — Designated Activity Company, for regulated or single-purpose businesses
    • CLG — Company Limited by Guarantee, used by charities and clubs
    • LP / LLP — Limited Partnership, mostly for property and investment vehicles
    • PLC — Public Limited Company, for businesses planning to list shares publicly

See our full breakdown on the Irish company types page.

    Step 2 — Pick a company name

Your company name must be unique and not too similar to existing CRO entries. We run a free name check before filing. Avoid generic terms like "Ireland", "Bank" or "Group" unless you can justify them — the CRO will reject them.

Step 3 — Appoint directors and a secretary

An Irish LTD needs at least one director and a separate company secretary. At least one director must be EEA-resident, or you must purchase a Section 137 bond. Use our nominee secretary service if you don't have a second officer.

    Step 4 — Set a registered office

Every Irish company needs a physical registered office in Ireland — a PO Box won't do. Use your own address or our registered office service for €300/year.

Step 5 — File with the CRO

We submit your Form A1, constitution and signed declarations electronically. The CRO typically issues your Certificate of Incorporation in 3-5 working days. After that, you can open a bank account, register for taxes, and start trading.

Step 6 — Register for taxes

Once incorporated, register for Corporation Tax (12.5%), VAT, PAYE if you'll have employees, and RCT if you're in construction. We bundle this into our tax registration service.
